It’s a busy job market out there and it’s important to stand out from the crowd. Most employers these days expect a cover letter with your CV, to give an overview of your expertise and experience – here’s our top tips for making your cover letter have impact.
Make your letter concise and to the point. Aim for around half a page of A4 at most and make sure you choose a simple, easy to read font.
Who are you writing to? Address the letter to the hiring manager, if you have their name. If not, addressing the letter “Dear Sir/Madam” is perfectly acceptable.
Research is vital. Find out more about the company you’re applying to work for, the role in question, match your skills and experiences to the needs of your potential future employer and give an outline about how your skills and experiences match the needs of the role and organisation in your cover note.
What should you include in the letter? Be clear about why you are getting in touch, why your application is suitable for the role and what unique skills and experiences you can bring to the company.
Best of luck!
