Communications Manager (7-month contract)


Location:  Remote/Milton Keynes


Job Description:


Our client is seeking a Communications Manager to join their team, on a 7 month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will advise on and deliver communication plans for our strategic projects, which motivate, inspire, inform and engage internal colleagues with the organisation’s priorities.



Key responsibilities:


  • Developing and supporting the Chief Information Office Portfolio’s internal communications strategy, working closely with Strategic Communications Business Partners to ensure the plan is reflective of our values.


  • Leading and managing staff communication and engagement activities related to strategic projects.


  • Planning and coordinating communications to key stakeholders across the organization, covering all areas of strategic projects which will require complex and ongoing communication over the next two years as we implement new technologies and ways of working.


  • Providing general communications-related support and advice to strategic project teams and colleagues in the Strategic Communications and Business Partnering Team as required.


  • Working with Strategic Communications Business Partners and key internal stakeholders to create and manage key messages for our core audience groups.


  • Developing collateral and creating content to deliver key messages to our audiences via our delivery channel portfolio which includes our intranet, video-messages, e-bulletins and engagement events.


  • Ensuring feedback loops are in place to support collaboration with colleagues and evaluation of comms activity



Key skills and experience:


  • Experience in delivering multi-channel communication plans to diverse audience groups and the ability to manage a number of different plans in parallel.
  • Demonstrable ability to read others, understand audiences, develop and utilise audience insight.
  • A passion for people and managing projects where there is people impact.
  • An ability to build excellent relationships with team members and key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Confidence to take the initiative to advise on comms and engagement issues and recommend an approach.
  • Proven track record of delivering to agreed timescales and briefs, particularly in fast moving and changeable situations with adaptability to change approach as required


  • Experience in coming up with creative solutions to clearly explain complex messages to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience of organising and facilitating meetings and events.
  • Experience of working independently, taking ownership of tasks through to completion, as well as working as part of a team.
  • Experience of evaluating comms activity, reviewing outcomes and following process of continuous improvement.
  • Good written and verbal skills, with excellent proof reading skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience of MS Office and proficiency in using digital packages to develop newsletters, websites and other content.
  • Qualification in comms or comparable professional experience.
