WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER WHEN DESIGNING FOR PRINT

Posted: 22/06/2017

Although the digital revolution continues, print is still very much a big part of our lives. So what do you need to think about when designing for print products?

CMYK V RGB. Most computer design packages will use the “RGB” method for mixing specific colours for design. However, most printed use the “CMYK” method. Therefore, if you’re designing for print, it’s vital you convert your colours in your final design to the CMYK format to ensure consistency.

What about quality? It’s vital that designs are produced to a level of quality that will look as good on paper as it does on the screen. If you export your designs to 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch) you’ll have a high quality product at the end.

Don’t forget bleed! Designers should always go over the edge of their product (called the bleed) to ensure that when the product is printed and cropped it’s consistent.

Always check! Unlike digital, printed material can’t just be changed within an instant. Always double check your work!
